The Maroon Tigers came up short as they fall to the Benedict College Tigers in the SIAC Championship, 68-60. By winning the SIAC tournament, Benedict receives an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Ignited by a large turnout of Morehouse fans dreaming of the first SIAC championship since the 2003-Maroon Tigers beat the Miles Golden Bears, in Birmingham.

The Maroon Tigers jumped out to an early six point lead for the Maroon Tigers. Senior Andrae Nelson who scored 20 points on 10 of 16 shooting often found himself matched up against Benedict’s Marcus Goode the 6’10 SIAC Player of the Year. Goode scored 17 points and hauled in 14 rebounds to lead the charge for Benedict as they found themselves down 32-31 at halftime.

Morehouse looked to increase lead as they led 43-35, their largest of the game however the Golden Tigers went on an 18-4 scoring run over the span of 10 minutes. Morehouse did not go away without a fight as SIAC Newcomer of the Year Darrius Williams put in 17 points and 11 rebounds.  The Maroon Tigers cut the lead to 61-58 on an Austin Anderson 3 pointer but a costly turnover by the Tigers allowed Benedict to ice the game with 7 free throws which put the game out of reach.

Morehouse is currently ranked 6th in the NCAA South Region and could still receive an “at-large” bid to the regional tournament.

The Morehouse Tigers advance to the SIAC championship game after defeating the Tuskegee Golden Tigers, 63-58. Morehouse advances to the championship game and will face Benedict. Morehouse’s two All-SIAC players –  Andrae Nelson and Darrius Williams posted double-doubles.

Williams poured in a game-high 21 points and tied for a game high 10 rebounds. Nelson scored 16 of his 20 points in the second half and hauled down 10 rebounds.  At the half, Tuskegee led Morehouse 34-29.

The Maroon Tigers shot 22 free throws in comparison with the Golden Tigers 6 attempts. Calvin Thomas scored 20 points and Shaquille Cook posted 13 points to lead the way for the Golden Tigers. Morehouse forced Tuskegee into shooting 28 percent from the field and coughing up the ball 8 times.

For the second consecutive game, the Tigers needed a strong comeback as the found themselves down by 7 but the efforts proved valiant as the move on to the SIAC Championship. Morehouse and Benedict split in the regular season, with Morehouse winning, 68-65, in Forbes Arena, and Benedict winning 77-70, in Columbia, SC. The Championship game will be televised on Comcast Sports South (CSS), at 8:30 p.m.

In the quarterfinals of the SIAC tournament, The Morehouse College Tigers edged the Kentucky State University Thoroughbreds in dramatic fashion to a score of 66-65 on Thursday afternoon in Forbes Arena. Guard Darrius Williams put in two free throws with 12.7 seconds to secure the victory. Morehouse got off to a shaky start, turning the ball over 10 times in the first half but the Tigers righted the ship in the second half by reducing turnovers and clamping down on defense.

Morehouse had four players in double figures who were led by Williams, who made the SIAC first team as he scored 21 points and 11 rebounds. Kentucky State’s Kentucky Darquell Pulliam led the Thoroughbreds with 21 points and 3 rebounds. Kentucky State ends their season at 15-12.

There were 11 lead changes with the score being tied 7 times. Morehouse hauled in 42 rebounds which produced a 18-8 advantage on second-chance points.  The Tigers next opponent will be the Tuskegee Tigers on Friday at 3:15 in Forbes Arena

On the final regular season game of the season and Senior Day, the Morehouse College Tigers did not disappoint as they swept their AUC rival by defeating the Clark Atlanta Panthers, 73-66. The game was played before more than 3,100 fans which was the largest crowd of the season. All five seniors started for the Tigers to open the game.

Morehouse never trailed during the game leading by as many as 17 points. Darrius Williams led the way for the Tigers scoring 22 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.  At halftime, Morehouse was leading 39-32.

Kevin James added 21 points for the Panthers who was one of three players for Clark Atlanta to achieve double figures. In the second half of play, the Panthers did their best to cut the lead down to 6 points but could not overcome the deficit.  The Panthers turned the ball over 13 times and shot 46 percent from the field.

The Tigers ended the regular season with a three-game winning streak with momentum going into next week’s SIAC tournament.

The Morehouse Tigers edged out the Fort Valley State Wildcats 108-99 in 3 overtime thriller that cemented itself as one of the most thrilling games to take place at Forbes Arena. Senior Forward Shawn Allen hit two free throws with 2 tenths of a second left to tie the score at 80 and force overtime. Tigers had overcome a major hurdle throughout the duration of the game because they had not taken the lead since 19:47 in the first half of regulation.

The Tigers battled to keep the momentum however the Wildcats would not relent easily. Brandon Davey led the Wildcats with 26 points. Tigers point guard Malcolm Frank buried a 3 pointer that forced a second overtime to keep the Tigers alive.

Frank’s jumpshot proved to be the spark that Tigers needed to finish strong as they outscored the Fort Valley 12-3 in the final period which put the Tigers up for good. Morehouse featured four players in double figures. The next home game for the Tigers will be against the Clark Atlanta Panthers. for the final game of the regular season.

In their final home game of the season, the Spelman College Jaguars defeated the Bennett Belles, 93-40. This was the last regular season game played for the Jaguars after this year. The Jaguars maintained dominance throughout the game as the forced Bennett into 28 turnovers and shooting 21.8 percent from the field.

Senior forward Mariah Coggins led the way for the Jaguars with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Spelman had 6 players in double figures. The Jaguars hauled in 43 rebounds and dished out 23 assists.

Mariah Newborn added 15 points and 15 rebounds for the Belles. The Spelman fans displayed a proud showing as they applauded the Jaguars as they took the court for the last time. In their final home showing, the Jaguars shot 43.6 percent from the fields and shot 47.4 percent from 3-point range.

Next for the Jaguars is the conference playoffs in the GSAC. For the loyal Jaguars, it is the end of an era but not without memorable moments and milestones. Congratulations to the Spelman Jaguars on an amazing season

The Morehouse Maroon Tigers defeated the Clark Atlanta Panthers, 57-56 to remain atop in the SIAC play. Morehouse secured the lead for good after senior forward Jonathan Tassin laid the ball with less than 9 seconds on the clock. The highly contested AUC showdown became an instant classic as the teams traded baskets back and forth.

Prior to the game, their was heightened security presences from the aftermath of the shooting that took place in front of Archer Hall. The Tigers had to fight off a sluggish start to settle into the game after convincingly defeating Claflin the previous day. In the first half, Clark Atlanta capitalized on turnovers and free throws to keep the advantage.

Junior Forward Dwayne Bingham led all scorers with 17 points and 9 rebounds.The Tigers held onto an early lead at half, 34-32. In the 2^nd half, Morehouse held onto their momentum after the Tigers went scoreless went scoreless for 8 minutes in the 2^nd half.

The Tigers went 0-4 from the free throw line which provided hope for the Panthers. During the 8 minute drought, the Panthers clung to the largest lead of the game at 6 points with a score of 49-43 which the Tigers managed to chip away one possession at a time. Senior forward Andrae Nelson helped to propel the Tigers with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Morehouse regained the lead after a traveling violation was called against the Panthers which game them another opportunity. The Tigers capitalized on their opportunity and edged out another SIAC victor to remain undefeated. Their next game is on Thursday against Benedict College at 7:30

The Gulf Coast State Commodores defeated the Clark Atlanta Panthers 3-1 on Saturday afternoon. The Commodores won 25-16, 24-26, 25-21, and 25-16. Middle Hitter Kelsey Hedman led the way 11 kills and 4 serving aces along with 3 blocks and Setter and Defensive Stopper Cassandra Ducote dished out 30 assists.

The Panthers were led by Setter Kailyn Blackmon with 33 assists and 3 serving aces. The Panthers recorded 61 digs and 14 blocks. Ashley Brooks notched 10 kills. The Panthers had moments where they made runs but were unable to overcome the deficits.

After dropping the 1^st set, the Panthers keyed in on fundamental rotations and solid returns which helped them take the 2^nd set.

After the 2nd Set, Clark Atlanta was not able to keep up their consistency for the duration of at the match. The Panthers became plagued by miscommunication which allowed for self-induced turnovers. The Commodores took control of the 3rd set and did not relinquish the lead.

In the 4th set, Clark was looking to make their comeback but could not correct their past mistakes as the Commodores jumped out to a 9-4 lead.

Clark Atlanta looked to counter but errant serves and multiple errors did them no favors. The Panthers have more games on the horizon which will allow them to polish up on many key aspects in their repertoire.
